We acknowledge that this land is the traditional territory of the Three Fires Confederacy of First Nations (comprised of the Ojibway, the Odawa, and the Potawatomi Peoples), and of the Huron-Wendat Peoples. We value the significant historical and contemporary contributions of local and regional First Nations and all of the Original Peoples of Turtle Island who have been living and working on the land from time immemorial.

There were no declarations of conflict of interest noted at this time.

The tour was conducted before and after the Official meeting was called to order.  Mr. Doug Arnold and Ms. Marnie Aldridge guided the Heritage Committee Members on a complete tour of the Essex United Church.  Significant notables on the outside are the Geodetic Survey of Canada Benchmark 2068, believed to be one of the last markings left in Essex, Ontario, the stained-glass windows, bell and architecture of the building.  The Church was built in 1908.  The pipe organ, built in 1927, was noted as an internal item of Heritage significance as it was the last pipe organ built by the Casavant Family of Quebec. Staff Liaison, Rita Jabbour reminded the Heritage Committee members that there will be a special meeting with Council on April 29, 2024 to discuss Council's roles and responsibilities under the Heritage Act and education of the significance of Heritage preservation.  The Committee members were invited to join the meeting, either in person or virtually. At the next meeting, May 30, 2024, the Committee can discuss the recommendation of designation of the Essex United Church in further detail.
